Using PDP for SKUs

A SKU can be viewed using a PDP template designed specifically for a Catalog. Refer to Product Detail Page for more details on PDP, how to create a PDP template to view SKUs as well as the various actions that can be performed on the template once it is created.

Here, let us understand how to use the templates created to view SKUs as well as edit SKU Attribute Values using PDP in the following sections:

Viewing a SKU Using PDP

You can view any SKU added in the catalog using a PDP.

NOTE

You can only view one SKU at a time using the PDP.

To view a SKU using PDP:

  1. Right-click the SKU and then click Product Detail Page > View PDP for the Selected SKU as shown below.

The left panel of the screen displays the list of templates that have been created for the catalog in which the SKU exists. Also, you can perform various actions on the templates such as you can edit the template / create a copy of the template and so on as shown below. Click the icon on the template to perform the actions.

Refer to Product Detail Page for more details on how to perform each of the actions shown in the figure above.

NOTE

If no template is created for a catalog, the template options will be blank and you cannot view the SKUs using PDP. Hence, it is important to create the PDP template.

You can choose the appropriate template for viewing the SKU based on the structure of the template. Let us choose the Accessories Template.

Select the template on the left panel and the SKU data will be displayed in the template based on the information available for the SKU selected as shown below..

This template includes the following details:

  • DAs linked to Taxonomy and SKU Attributes – Since there are assets linked to the Node and SKU attributes, it is displayed.

  • SKU Title – This is automatically fetched for the SKU. If no title is defined, it will be blank

  • Attribute Meta Tag Name – This is not present for the SKU selected in this case. Hence, it is blank.

  • SKU Attribute Name-Value – This is automatically fetched for the SKU and all attributes associated to the SKU are displayed along with the values

  • Text and paragraph as set in the template is displayed

Thus, depending on the template selected, the elements will be displayed in the structure. Also, if the SKU does not have values for the elements present in the structure, it will be blank.

You can also create new PDP templates from this screen.  Click Add New in the left panel of the screen as shown below.

Here, you can create a new template by following the same steps as mentioned in section Creating a PDP Template. The template will then be available once created for selection to view a SKU.

You can also download the template with the SKU data and share it with the customers, if needed. There are 3 options available. Click Download Template and the following is displayed.

Depending on the requirement, you can download the template as an Image/ PDF / As HTML. Select the respective option and the template will be downloaded in that format.

Viewing PDP Template in Device Emulator

A device emulator is a useful feature in PDP, as it allows you to test how the PDP would look on different devices without the need to actually have the device. The device emulators in PCC are designed for mainly three types of devices which are mobile, tablet and desktop. Using this feature, you can view how the PDP would look on the selected device as the resolution on each device would be different. Hence, the data will be resized based on the type of device and the resolution set for each of these devices. This will help in making necessary changes in the resolution or changing the settings in the PDP template so that the information is displayed appropriately based on the customer’s requirements.

To view the template in a device emulator:

  1. Right-click the SKU and then click Product Detail Page > View PDP for the Selected SKU.

  2. Select the template if there are multiple templates available and the SKU details will be visible in the template as shown below.

  1. Click the View Template in Device Emulator icon on the upper-right corner of the screen to preview the template in the various device options available. The following screen appears.

There are 3 tabs which are as follows:

  • Popular Devices – This has a list of more commonly used devices by users in general while purchasing products using an e-commerce site. This is selected, by default.

  • All Devices – This has a list of all the devices supported in the emulator and is divided into 3 categories. Select the respective category and all the devices available under that category will be displayed. Let us select Tablet and all devices supported for viewing the template are displayed as shown below.

  • Custom Resolution – Here, you can change the screen width and height resolution to view how the SKU information in the template is visible as shown below.

  1. Select the device for which you need to view the template and the details will be displayed accordingly. For example, iPhone 8 is selected and based on the screen resolution that is available for iPhone 8 devices, the  template is updated as shown below.

NOTE

In case of mobile and tablet devices, the template details are displayed in both the portrait and landscape mode to give you an idea of how the information will be shown as in case of these devices, the screen is usually in portrait mode but can shift to landscape mode when the mobile / tablet is held horizontally by a user. However, in case of desktop devices, the screen will always be in landscape mode.

  1. Click Close Screen Emulator to close the screen and return to the PDP page for the SKU.

Editing Selected SKU Using PDP

You can edit the attribute values of the SKU from PDP as well. This is useful in cases where you notice any typo in the attribute values or any value that needs to be edited or deleted specifically for the selected SKU.

You can also edit SKU attribute values as explained in sections Using External Sources to Update SKU Values as well as Editing SKUs which allows editing multiple SKUs. Editing in PDP is specifically for the selected SKU and provides a more visually appealing page to modify SKU attribute values.

NOTE

While editing SKUs in PDP, you can only edit the existing attribute values, delete / add a new attribute value. You cannot link assets / move / crosslist SKUs .

An edit icon is displayed next to all SKU attributes used in the PDP if the PDP is opened in edit mode.

To edit a SKU attribute value in PDP:

  1. Right-click the SKU and then click Product Detail Page > Edit Selected SKU using PDP as shown below.

  1. Select the template in case of multiple templates from the left panel in which the SKU is to be viewed as each template will have different components.

Also, you can click the View Template Details icon present on each template to view the basic template details to get an idea about when the template was created as shown below.

Depending on the template selected, the PDP is now displayed along with the edit icons next to the SKU attributes.

If the template selected has SKU attribute values as a component added in the structure, an icon will be displayed next to all the values. Also, a lock icon is displayed next to attributes which are locked and values of these attributes cannot be changed.

  1. Click the Edit SKUicon next to the attribute to be edited and the following is displayed.

Make the changes and click Save. Click Add More to add more values and the SKU is updated accordingly.

Thus, you can update all  / any SKU attributes displayed as part of the PDP. You can also download the template as an Image/ PDF / As HTML with the SKU data and share it with the customers, if needed. Click Download Template to download the data in the required format.

However, if the SKU attribute value being edited is already under review, you will not be able to change the value until the review mechanism is completed.

Also, if the review mode is turned on for user action Review user actions of updates to SKU attribute value while adding/editing a hierarchy, any changes in the SKU attribute value cannot be done directly as it will be assigned to a reviewer as explained in Edit SKUs.
