Multi-Language Support

Prev Next

Multi-language support in PIM systems is crucial for businesses operating in diverse markets and regions where multiple languages are used. This feature enhances user experience and simplifies the process of managing Product Information for global teams.

Multi language provides the user with the capability to store and manage data/product information in multiple languages, allowing users to interact with the system in their preferred language.

You can select the desired language to translate the base content, ensuring effective communication with the end-users whose native language may not be English, especially when you want to export and send them the product information. Once the language is selected the alternate search also works which means you can search a value using the selected language.

Note: The static labels for column headings, buttons, menu items and numbers will continue to show in English and does not get translated under any circumstance.

Once the multi-language feature is enabled you can see Locale field drop-down with enabled languages as options and this field is only available on the following screens:

  • Catalog > SKU View

  • Product Listing

  • Product 360 page

Steps to enable multi-language support:

  1. Go to Catalog > All Catalog > click Create New Catalog.

  2. Now while creating the catalog select the Catalog Base locale as English (US).

  3. Now select the Default Autoset Choice from the following options:

  • Translate – The value will be translated in alternate language.

  • Copy base as is – The value will be as it was entered in base locale.

  • Static Value – Fixed value Not Set - <Language> for <BaseValue> is displayed.

  • No alternate value – There will be no alternate value.

Now for example, if you select the Default Autoset Choice to Translate option.

We selected this option as we would want to translate the data to a user specific language.

  1. Get in touch with Blue Meteor Customer Success Team to set the alternative language(s).

Once the requested language(s) are enabled for the specific catalog.

  1. Go to the Catalog > select the catalog for which the feature was enabled.

And you can see drop-down with all the languages enabled for the catalog.

The catalog level default autoset flag will govern the behaviour of the system generated alternate value for the following objects:

  • Attribute Name

  • Taxonomy Node name (also the full path)

  • SKU title

Similarly, when you create an attribute and select the Default Autoset Choice to Translate then the attribute and its value gets translated into the selected alternative language in the attribute section as shown in the below screenshots.
